Local Government Boundaries Commission
The Boundaries Commission has several functions under the Act. In summary its main functions are:
- to examine and report on any matter referred to it by the Minister in relation to the boundaries of local government areas and the areas of operation of county councils; and
- where a matter (as described in (i) above) has been referred to the Chief Executive of the Office of Local Government for examination and report, to review that Report and provide comments to the Minister.
NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal
The former Local Government Pecuniary Interest and Disciplinary Tribunal previously heard matters relating to councillor misconduct and breaches of the pecuniary interest provisions of the Local Government Act 1993.
This function has now been transferred to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Local Government Remuneration Tribunal
The Local Government Remuneration Tribunal is constituted under Chapter 9, Division 4 of the Local Government Act 1993. The Tribunal is responsible for categorising councils, county councils and mayoral offices to determine the maximum amounts of fees to be paid to councillors, members of county councils and mayors in each category. The Tribunal is required to make a determination by no later than 1 May each year and make a report to the Minister within 7 days of making that determination. The Report is to be published in the Government Gazette and also laid before each House of Parliament.

Local Government Grants Commission
The primary function of the Local Government Grants Commission is to make recommendations to the Minister for Local Government on the allocation of general purpose grants to local governing bodies in New South Wales under the provisions of the Commonwealth Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act, 1995.
The Commission consists of four members appointed for terms of up to five years. Three members (including the Chair) are nominated by the Minister for Local Government, and the Deputy Chairperson is an employee of the Office of Local Government.
